The envelope that arrives in Alden's mail comes as a missive without a return address. The envelope is addressed to Charles Spencer Alden III, like a formal announcement or a wedding invitation. The paper is a heavy, expensive stock, and the handwriting is neat, flowing strokes of black ink. But lest you be frightened, it is not a wedding invitation.
( For one thing, wedding invitations aren't this long. )

Saving the world. If only you knew, madam. If only you knew.
This is home to my now, moreso than anywhere has ever been in my life. Home is where you live and what you come home to, and the life I have made for myself free of all the shackles -- real and imagined -- that used to tie my hands. What's next, community theater?
I don't want the life she has. I do wish I could be of more use, though. She is not the first friend I walked away from -- speaking of scar tissue. Shaw told me once that scars heal. I am pretty sure I told him at the time that he was an idiot. These glimpses are very narrow in scope. I feel as an advisor might, floating in vacuum, divorced from context. I met Jamie Madrox twice -- although several of him on one of those occasions -- and even I cannot base sensible working judgments on two meetings two years old. If he did have decent taste in women and I recall that he was a bit of a nuisance to Wattley.
Normal. Why, if you want normalcy, would you date someone like Madrox? For that matter, why would you want to date someone with such a particularly bizarre mutation without exploring all of the possibilities his bizarreness has to offer? I am sure that Bahir would have sex with two of me at once. Maybe I will ask him about it.
On second thought, maybe not. I don't think I need to make identical twin sex jokes to him.
I really need to do some actual work tomorrow. Maybe we can get dolled up tomorrow night. That would be pretty funny. Should have bought some wax while we were out today.
( 'Percy tries not to be too jealous of you.' (Bahir, Kelsey) )
Kelsey arrives!
( 'So normal is hard.' (Kelsey) )
Next day.

Chasing off the shadows.

( 'Charles Alden. Does the name ring a bell?' (Alden) )
It does now.
It does now.

Perhaps it's more like au revoir.

Kelsey stops in to wish Percy a merry unbirthday and, apparently, to try to get him to reproduce.
